Age: 17
Age at Diagnosis: 5

Upon her diagnosis with T1D, Alex was told artificial pancreas technology would not be available until she was in college. She started using one the summer before 8th grade. This inspired in her a passion for community service and advocacy. Alex has advocated for a T1D cure in many ways, such as through fundraising for JDRF One Walk, serving as a Youth Ambassador and an ambassador for her diabetes camp, as well as meeting with her Member of Congress. She is grateful for the impact JDRF has had on her life and the community she has found. “Through the programs and initiatives funded and run by JDRF, I and thousands of other people with T1D have found fulfillment in our lives.”

Alex is an extremely active and busy teenager! She enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, and being in nature. Alex is also a student athletic trainer and track athlete at her high school and will be graduating as a certified EMT and EKG technician. She plans to study exercise science or kinesiology in college.
