Myrtice has experienced years of struggling with type 1, since being diagnosed at age three. She helped her mom run a diabetes support group, which allowed her to see the challenges that many other people with the disease live with every day. This experience has really driven home to Myrtice how important it is to promote diabetes awareness. Myrtice has also spoken about life with diabetes to school dietary aides at a training put on by the Wyoming Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. Myrtice likes to sing, and enjoys music, art, reading, and writing. She received the Violet Richardson Woman of Distinction Award in 2010, and an Honor Roll Award of 2010. As a delegate, Myrtice wants to help more people become aware of diabetes and help get more funding for diabetes research.
