"As a noun, a dragoon is a mighty soldier. As a verb, it means to compel something into submission," says Daniel, who asks Congress to help dragoon type 1 diabetes.

"As a noun, a dragoon is a mighty soldier. As a verb, it means to compel something into submission," says Daniel, who asks Congress to help dragoon type 1 diabetes. Diagnosed at age seven, Daniel started the award-winning The Danny Dragoon Project, in which he and his classmates write to celebrities, asking for donations of auction items for diabetes research fundraising. It's one of many ways Daniel fights diabetes. He won first place in a science fair for his project about fat's effect on blood sugar, he frequently speaks at fundraising events, and has met with his congressman about the importance of funding. Daniel enjoys reading, basketball, and playing tenor saxophone, and hopes to one day fully control his blood sugar and become a SCUBA diver. He feels lucky to have access to insulin, and wants to be a voice for those who don't get to tell Congress their stories .
