Wes is an avid athlete and does not let his type 1 diabetes define him. “Being a person with T1D should not prevent me, or any other person, from being able to enjoy sports and exercise.” He loves his job as a lifeguard and recently participated in a program that helps children with disabilities experience the outdoors and learn how to overcome adversities.

Wes wants to study biomechanics and kinesiology in college to better understand how the human body functions so he can help other kids with T1D. He is advocating for research funding so that a future without T1D can be realized for him, his dad (who also lives with T1D), and his future children.
