Ever notice that ubiquitous JDRF sneaker magnet on a car bumper? You have Shea to thank for raising awareness, one car at a time. She and her family had the car magnet manufactured in 2005 for a fundraiser for their JDRF Walk team, and interest in it spread quickly. “Over the years, its popularity has grown throughout the country, and it was even sold in the national JDRF store,” she says. Shea also knows about dedication, in all walks of life. Not only has she raised more than $100,000 as part of her ongoing JDRF Walk fundraising, she earned her place on her high school’s JV soccer team as a freshman. Shea would like to be a teacher or an accountant someday. “Diabetes has made me very good at math!”
