Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 6

Samantha enjoys cycling, singing in choir, and playing the piano. Since her diagnosis, she has had the full support of her family to take on T1D and not let it dominate her life. She explains, “With any challenge, allies help you overcome obstacles; my parents and my doctor are my closest allies. With their support, I am now well on my way to becoming independent.” She is ardently involved in JDRF, participating in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, local advocacy events and more. She says, “While I have diabetes, I do not let it define who I am. I am a teenager with a bright future because of my attitude, my support and the technology that has been offered to me through JDRF.”
