Robert was 11 years old when he started feeling weak at camp. When he returned home, his parents took him to the doctor, where he tested positive for strep throat, and then was diagnosed with type 1. "Needless to say, it was an eventful week…but I survived!" he says.

Robert was 11 years old when he started feeling weak at camp. When he returned home, his parents took him to the doctor, where he tested positive for strep throat, and then was diagnosed with type 1. "Needless to say, it was an eventful week…but I survived!" he says. Since then, Robert has continued to do the things he loves, like playing soccer, camping, and singing in his church choir. He has also begun spreading the word about type 1 and the need for research funding. Robert has participated in the Promise to Remember Me Campaign, and each year participates in the Walk to Cure Diabetes. Robert is a top student and is looking forward to college. He also loves speaking German and would like to visit Germany. As a delegate, Robert wants to help Congress understand the importance of diabetes research funding.
