But Megan's type 1 struggles have made her a resilient young woman, determined to fight diabetes and to achieve her dreams of earning a criminal justice degree and becoming a firefighter. A JDRF Youth Ambassador, Megan has spoken before the Legislature's Judiciary Committee for the University of Nebraska at Omaha Medical Center, was a featured speaker at the Lincoln Chapter's 2008 Dream Gala, and has been in three Fund A Cure videos. She's also spoken at corporate Walk to Cure Diabetes kick-off events, and she volunteers for her JDRF chapter. Megan is an outstanding high school athlete, has a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo, and works two jobs. Says Megan: "If I walk away…knowing I've touched at least one person in Congress, I will feel like I made a difference."
