Since Max was diagnosed at age five, he and his family have helped raise over $50,000 for diabetes research. Max wants to one day become a doctor, and he works hard to educate others about type 1. Max and his parents teach his classmates about diabetes; they even helped one classmate recognize symptoms that led to his own diagnosis. Max helped his school fundraiser bring in over $600, and has been the featured speaker at a JDRF corporate kick-off breakfast. Annually, his family team, "Team Bello" participates in the Walk to Cure Diabetes. Max loves sports, is captain of his travel soccer team, and has received many awards in school, including the Sun Sentinel Certificate of Recognition for good character, the Pelican Pal Award for his compassion, and a Math Certificate. Max's message to Congress is: "It is only with your support that this important research will be able to continue."
