Age: 10
Age at Diagnosis: 7

Even though Maria is only 10, she already has a plan for high school: she will shadow her doctor to learn how to help children and one day become a pediatrician. “Hopefully in the future we will find a cure for T1D, so little kids will not suffer.” In school, she’s a member of the Civil Rights Club and a math challenge group. In her free time, she loves music, art, and coloring.

Maria is very proud to be an advocate for T1D. Every November, she and her mom give blue ribbons to all the staff and teachers at her school to wear for National Diabetes Awareness Month—she also creates posters and informational slides about T1D for teachers to share with their classes.
