Age: 17
Age at T1D diagnosis: 9

Kaili wants to be a writer someday. He also enjoys building model kits, volunteering and public speaking. Being diagnosed with T1D was a big adjustment for Kaili and his family. He explains, “For me, advances in research to end type 1 diabetes would allow me to live a fuller, healthier life as I would no longer have to worry about how it affects others around me.” Kaili’s many advocacy efforts include educating other teens about the warning signs of diabetes at his local African American Festival, taking part in his chapter’s JDRF Gala and JDRF One Walk and serving as a JDRF Youth Ambassador. “I am willing to do whatever it takes to get the message through to those who can support funding to find a cure.”
