Age: 15
Age at Diagnosis: 12

In the two years since he was diagnosed with T1D, JT has learned a lot about taking care of himself. This is especially true when it comes to managing his blood sugar while playing travel basketball, flag football, or running for the varsity cross-country team (which he made as a freshman!). “I’ve found new ways to incorporate food, carbs, and exercise into my life so I can eat what I like and maintain my health.”

Although he was diagnosed with T1D during the COVID-19 pandemic, JT quickly found ways to spread awareness around T1D and share his experiences with friends, teammates, and coaches. He and his family have also raised funds for JDRF through the One Walk and were the top new team! JT doesn’t think anyone should have the stress of T1D on their hands, especially kids. He believes with more research and advanced technology, a world without T1D is a possibility for his future. In addition to continuing to advocate for a cure for T1D, JT hopes to major in business when he attends college.
