for her sixth birthday, billie wished for a magic wand to cure diabetes. when the wand didn't appear, she used what she did have: the ability to take action by helping jdrf raise money and spreading awareness about type 1. diagnosed at age four, billie has set a goal to raise $1 million for jdrf, and has already raised $60,000 through her efforts. her great work includes organizing many fundraisers, such as barbeques and a jelly bean guessing competition; participating with her team of 250 people, "billie's brigade," in the jdrf walk; and giving interviews about diabetes. billie, who's also a jdrf youth ambassador, says "i take every opportunity that jdrf throws at me to raise awareness." billie enjoys jazz dancing, acting, and girl guides, and aspires to become a performing artist. as a delegate, she wants to raise awareness, make friends, and share her experiences back home in australia.
