Age: 9
Age at Diagnosis: 1

Ian has not let T1D get in his way! He maintains all A’s in school, plays tennis, piano, and loves performing in musicals (he is currently performing in Mary Poppins) and plays. Ian and his family got involved with JDRF and the T1D community right after he was diagnosed, and they’ve helped to raise awareness and drive research ever since! Ian has talked on the radio about T1D and spoken to a college class, sharing what life is like with the disease.

In addition to participating in JDRF One Walks and speaking to his representatives about the importance of making sure people have access to affordable insulin, Ian and his family started a support group that hosts a free day camp for children living with T1D in the summer. When he grows up, Ian says, “I want to be a pediatrician because I want to help children feel better.”
