Age: 13
Age at T1D diagnosis: 3

Just 10 months after Emma was diagnosed with T1D, her younger sister, Anna, was diagnosed as well. As young children, both struggled with the four daily shots needed to manage their disease. Today, Emma and Anna both use insulin pumps.

Emma has served in volunteer and youth leadership roles throughout the T1D community. This year, in addition to Children’s Congress, she hopes to work as a counselor at Camp Needlepoint to help mentor children living with T1D. T1D awareness isn’t the only area in which Emma is active, however. Emma and her family have been involved with T1D Genetics Consortium research and TrialNet research at the University of Minnesota. An honors student, Emma also performs with a competitive dance team, skis, bikes, plays tennis, and loves spending time with her friends.
