Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 12

Alex likes to play tennis, get together with her friends and travel with her family. When she grows up she wants to work in cybersecurity for the NSA or the CIA. Alex says, “I know I am lucky, because I have a good family and doctors, and support. I know that while I am able to manage my diabetes, it is much harder for others.” She and her family take part in JDRF One Walk and their local JDRF Galas, where Alex has served as an ambassador. Alex is also a JDRF Mentor. She asked for donations for research, rather than gifts, for her Bat Mitzvah. Alex also enjoys letting others know what it’s like to live with T1D at schools and fundraising events. “Type 1 diabetes has made me stronger, more responsible and more compassionate for other people.”
