Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 3

Mathias and his sister founded Sweet Siblings (sweetsiblings.org), a site available in English and Spanish that helps newly diagnosed kids and teens and their siblings navigate the ups and downs of life with T1D. “It is full of tips and tricks about how to make diabetes easier and more manageable, and it has allowed me to share my positive outlook towards diabetes with those who are struggling with a new diagnosis,” says Mathias, who also blogs on the site. Mathias mentors other kids with T1D, has helped organize events for New York City teens, such as a basketball tournament and a dinner, and has served on a JDRF panel on T1D. He enjoys watching TED Talks and Kahn Academy videos, playing golf, and reading books, news and biographies.
