Age: 13
Age at T1D diagnosis: 8

T1D is a family affair for Keira’s family. Twelve-year-old Keira was diagnosed a few years ago after her father, who also has T1D, noticed the tell-tale signs of the disease developing in his daughter. Keira hasn’t let T1D slow her down. She is a JDRF Youth Ambassador who often teams with her father to speak about the challenges of living with T1D. Keira volunteers at the Greater Blue Ridge Chapter’s Diamonds and Denim Gala, works with a local T1D support group, and is a member of her family’s JDRF One Walk team. Keira plays soccer and swims for her local YMCA team, the ‘Kirk Krakens’. In the future, Keira hopes to become either an endocrinologist or a veterinarian.
