Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 7

Fiona is a fighter—and a fast learner. Within a month of her T1D diagnosis at age seven, she was administering her insulin shots and testing her blood-glucose levels on her own. She reflects, “Although every day with type 1 diabetes is a constant battle, I fight through.”

Fiona is also an adept fundraiser, having raised more than $120,000 as captain of her JDRF Walk team. Her efforts to raise awareness include discussing T1D in health class, and she has met with a Member of Congress to discuss T1D research funding. Fiona is passionate about the arts—she takes art classes and guitar lessons and volunteers at a nonprofit that helps engage children with disorders in creative expression. One of her proudest accomplishments so far? Her hard-earned role of Glinda in The Wizard of Oz.
