Stephen is most inspired by the perseverance of his dad and mom. It is a trait they have passed on to Stephen, who shows a lot of strength in dealing with his type 1 diabetes. Diagnosed at age two, he has experienced a diabetic coma, been rushed to the emergency room for hyperglycemia, and dealt with adverse reactions from children who didn't understand the disease. "I wish I could end my story by how it only affected me, but it affects everyone around me," says Stephen, who is grateful for the support of his family. As a delegate, Stephen calls on the support of Congress as well, to help fund important diabetes research. Stephen is a straight-A student who enjoys video games, Facebook, and sports of all kinds.
