Age: 13
Age at T1D diagnosis: 7

Sophie likes soccer, reading, watching movies and hanging out with her friends. “However, one of my more unusual pastimes compared to other kids my age is that I love to advocate for type 1 diabetes awareness.” She proudly wears her devices, and explains how they work to those who are curious. Sophie takes part in JDRF One Walk with ‘Sophie’s Sassy Supporters’ and JDRF Tee Off for a Cure, and mentors newly diagnosed kids. She also met her Members of Congress to speak about the importance of funding T1D research. Sophie adores animals—including her many pets—and wants to eventually study mammal biology in college. She says, “My dream job would be at Disney World in the Animal Kingdom.”
