Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 6

Sarah has a lot of experience explaining T1D—to her friends, her schoolmates, her teachers, even members of her family. She even developed a science project about it. Despite the challenge of increasing awareness, she presses on in her hope to help more people, including Congress, understand the importance of T1D research. “I can’t wait until the scientists and doctors are able to make an artificial pancreas for me. But most of all, I want them to find a cure.”

The captain of her family’s JDRF Walk team, Sarah has earned the Golden Sneaker Award. Some of Sarah’s hobbies include building with Legos (she’s a member of her school’s Lego Club), working on the school yearbook, and learning how to design video games. Looking to the future, she would love to become a writer or an artist.
