Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 3

Sam is passionate about field hockey—and she loves history, ceramics and baking. Her younger brother also has T1D and Sam says, “We estimate that between the two of us, my brother and I have had to do more than 70,000 finger pricks and at least 50,000 shots of insulin injections!” Sam has taken part in countless JDRF One Walks and JDRF Galas, where she’s served as a Youth Ambassador and given the ‘Fund a Cure’ speech. This year, she’s planning to include her entire field hockey group on her Walk team. Sam looks forward to the day when a cure is found and “I could spend less time worrying about diabetes, and put all of that energy in reaching my full potential academically and athletically!”
