Ryan is a great student who enjoys science and math, and plans to study mechanical, aerospace or computer engineering in college. He also loves sports and plays varsity hockey. He says, “Bobby Clarke is a great inspiration to me because he was a professional hockey player for the Philadelphia Flyers and he has type 1 diabetes.” Ryan is a JDRF Youth Ambassador for his local chapter, takes part in JDRF One Walk and recently completed the requirements to become a JDRF Youth Advocacy Leader. He looks forward to speaking to Congress about healthcare coverage for everyone living with T1D and other chronic illnesses. He adds, “Insulin is very expensive. For five bottles per month it is about $1,000 for a person with no health insurance.”
