One of the most challenging—but also most satisfying—aspects of Rachel’s role as an ambassador with JDRF is speaking with newly diagnosed children and their families. “I can remember feeling the same way as they do, but it makes me feel good to know I can help them through the rough start that almost every kid goes through.”

Rachel, who manages her T1D with a wireless insulin pump, has raised more than $16,000 over three years by participating in the Walk to Cure Diabetes. She has also organized T1D awareness in her youth group, educating her friends about what life is like with the disease. As a talented singer, Rachel was inducted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She also sings in her school choir and participates in her school’s drill team.
