Age: 11
Age at T1D diagnosis: 4

Diagnosed with T1D at just four years old, Miles recalls not being able to fully understand his diagnosis until he was a bit older. Even after having diabetes for several years, he says it can still be confusing for the people he tries to explain it to. Miles is a big sports fan—his favorite teams are the Maryland Terps, the Atlanta Falcons, the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. He hopes to be a professional baseball player when he grows up. He and his family are committed to doing everything they can to help JDRF fund the cure. Their team has raised nearly $60,000 since their first Walk in 2013. Miles and his brother Ethan—who also has T1D—were the Walk Ambassadors in 2015, and they were featured at the Gala in 2016. This year, they are planning to host a home run derby to continue their fundraising efforts. Although life with T1D is hard, Miles maintains a positive attitude and says it “can’t stop me from doing the things I love.”
