Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 1

Michael isn’t alone in the struggle against T1D. “I have watched my friends, cousin and my brother diagnosed and struggle the same way that I have,” he says. He’s attending JDRF Children’s Congress to advocate not just for renewed research efforts but also to share his hope for a cure. “The advancements being made help so much. I love the research being done on the artificial pancreas and encapsulation devices. They mean a great deal to me and I keep up with the latest progress,” says Michael. A true outdoorsman, Michael likes to explore his home state, hike and spend time with his friends. He serves as a JDRF Youth Ambassador, is participating in a clinical trial that helps teens with T1D management, and has appeared in TV interviews to spread awareness.
