He also helped set up a fundraising booth at the Fourth of July festival in his hometown, and has sold T-shirts at school to raise money for research. Max, whose older sister, Julia, has diabetes as well, also explains type 1 to his class every year. As a delegate, he hopes to raise awareness about type 1 and convince Congress to lend money toward research. Max is a good student, and he enjoys playing ice hockey, taking guitar and karate lessons, reading, biking, and drawing. When he grows up, he wants to be either a hockey player or a scientist.
