Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 9

Max finds unexpected creativity in his T1D. “I realized I could use living with this disease as a source of inspiration.” His documentary, Advancements in Diabetic Medications, profiled the history and future of the disease, placing second in a local National History Day competition. An honor student, former class president, and tech enthusiast, Max is now busy working on an iPhone application to monitor blood-glucose levels.

One of his most fun advocacy moments: Max’s mom coordinates the silent auction for his family’s JDRF chapter. She once told 600 attendees that Max would moonwalk across the stage if they met their Fund A Cure goal—they did, and Max did his best Michael Jackson move! Max is also a talented athlete, having been selected for the Olympic Development Program soccer team. He hopes to become a doctor someday.
