“Life with diabetes is difficult, but I have decided to try and be the best person I can and have a positive influence on others,” says Julia, diagnosed at age 10. She is the Sophomore Class President at her high school, received the Peacemaker of the Year Award in eighth grade, sings in her school’s advanced choir, and holds a 4.0 GPA.


“Life with diabetes is difficult, but I have decided to try and be the best person I can and have a positive influence on others,” says Julia, diagnosed at age 10. She is the Sophomore Class President at her high school, received the Peacemaker of the Year Award in eighth grade, sings in her school’s advanced choir, and holds a 4.0 GPA. In addition, Julia and her family are active in spreading awareness about diabetes and raising funds for research. Julia is a Junior Ambassador for JDRF, her father is active on the JDRF Board, and her parents were pivotal in changing school rules to allow children to check their blood sugar in the classroom. As a delegate, Julia wants to be a role model and to educate Congress about type 1. Julia enjoys running, cooking, singing, and playing guitar and piano. She plans to pursue a medical career.
