Age: 13
Age at T1D diagnosis: 6

Jonathan, a JDRF 2011 Children’s Congress Delegate, is excited to return as Chair Kid for JDRF 2017 Children’s Congress. Since Jonathan’s diagnosis in 2009, he has become a mentor to other people with T1D and an all-around advocate. He has grown too; he is now 6’4” at 13 years old. Jonathan has not let T1D get in the way of his number one passion—playing basketball—nor has he let it stop him from running cross-country, or participating in track and doing the high jump. In 2016, Jonathan participated in the Medtronic Hybrid Closed Loop 670G trial, and he absolutely loves wearing the device and seeing the positive change in his diabetes management and outcome.

As a Delegate, Jonathan is most looking forward to meeting all the other Delegates. After JDRF 2011 Children’s Congress, and also many summers of T1D camp, Jonathan has learned his T1D peers are brave, tough, interesting and just really great kids.
