One day, Johanna wants to win a gold medal at the Olympics and "show everyone that type 1 diabetes isn't going to stop me!" She and her family are doing a lot to raise money for research and support the type 1 community. They've started two websites – one for parents of children with diabetes (www.parentingdiabetickids.com), and one that helps children and families attend diabetes camps and conferences, and supports JDRF (www.slamdiabetes.com). They participate in Walks and are passionate about helping in the fight against diabetes. A couple years ago, the Koloks adopted Nick, who is the same age as Johanna and also has type 1. "We help each other," says Johanna, diagnosed when she was four. Johanna wants to share her story and encourage Congress to fund more research. Johanna is a talented gymnast and actress, and also enjoys soccer and softball.
