Jillian loves animals and wants to become a veterinarian one day. Diagnosed at age six, she became the sixth person in her family to have type 1 diabetes, including her grandmother and dad. She enjoys school, spending time with friends and family, soccer, Girl Scouts, ice skating, and creating original works of art. Jillian is also doing a great deal to raise awareness about type 1. She has been a JDRF Youth Ambassador, has talked with her congressman through JDRF's Promise to Remember Me Campaign, and has spoken in front of the Council Bluffs City Council to raise awareness for World Diabetes Day in 2009. She participates in JDRF Walks, and is also helping her dad work with Iowa state legislators to change laws, to ensure insurance coverage for diabetes supplies and equipment. "I want to tell my story to help raise awareness of the need to increase funding," says Jillian.
