Age: 9
Age at T1D diagnosis: 4

James is one brave nine-year-old boy. He has already participated in various TrialNet trials through the Children’s Hospital of the University of Iowa Hospital, and has twice remained still in a closed MRI for brain imaging—all because he wants to help find a cure. After initial difficulty in identifying his diagnosis, today James’ mom Bridget says that it has been a blessing in disguise. “Once James got to the university hospital, got on the insulin and on the path to regulating his blood sugar, he became a new and improved boy … It made me wonder how long he’d been suffering because of his dramatic change!”

James loves building with Legos, and plays baseball, flag football, tag, and Army with his friends.
