Age: 16
Age at T1D diagnosis: 9

From speech and debate, to robotics and programming, to lacrosse and cycling, Jacob’s passions are as diverse as his many commitments to T1D awareness. A JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes cyclist, volunteer and speaker, Jacob has also shared information about T1D with his classmates through health projects. “In my daily life, I am public with my diabetes, and correct many stereotypes in most people I meet,” he says. “I have encountered a great deal of misconceptions, which I have done my best to clear up. It is something I have to live with, so I see no reason to ignore it.” Jacob has also participated in clinical trials, including a closed–loop system trial and CGM studies. He hopes to channel his love of chemistry and engineering into a career as a materials engineer.
