One day, while emptying her blood glucose meter pouch of its strips, Hannah started thinking about how to help Congress understand the magnitude of type 1. She started to save the strips. "I want to show them how many there are, and they can do the math for all the kids just at Children's Congress, and then for all those with diabetes.

I hope it will show them not only how much pain we go through but also how much it costs our families," she says. Diagnosed at age three, Hannah had the opportunity to talk with her congressman about diabetes last year in Washington, D.C. She and her supportive family are involved with JDRF year-round, raising money for type 1 research and spreading awareness about the disease. Hannah enjoys photography, playing saxophone, writing, and traveling, and would like to become a photojournalist.
