Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 12

Haley understands the devastation T1D can wreak on families, yet uses it as motivation for her advocacy. Her older sister Karissa also has the disease, and their father lost his life to it after suffering from complications. “No family deserves to endure this kind of pain. This is one of the many reasons why I want a cure.”

Haley participates in JDRF Walks and other fundraisers, the Promise to Remember Me Campaign, and research conferences, and she is involved with the Sugar Free Gang, a local support group. A skier, cheerleader, and competitive ice skater, she is just as active in sports as in advocacy. She also helps kids who have autism and Down syndrome through the Best Buddies Club at her school. Haley hopes to become a teacher someday.
