Age: 17
Age at T1D diagnosis: 8

Evie isn’t attending JDRF Children’s Congress just for herself; she’s here to advocate for her younger brother Daniel, too. Daniel was born with Down syndrome, and was later diagnosed with T1D, like Evie. “As I have taught Daniel many lessons on how to treat diabetes, he has taught me the lessons of love and laughter,” says Evie. “The daily routine involved in treating diabetes could be stressful, frustrating and generally painful, but for me, it’s not. And much of that is because of Daniel. He has taught me to love others with all of your heart, and laugh even when times are hard.” In addition to advocacy work with JDRF, Evie is a talented equestrian, and has won the Grand Champion award at several of her shows.
