"Sometimes I get mad because I have diabetes and I think it's not fair, but then I remember my little sister and I think it's not so bad," says Cody, diagnosed at age one. "My sister Grace has Down syndrome and is in remission with leukemia. Her shots were bigger." Cody's appreciation for life and family inspire his volunteerism.

He and his family raise money for organizations like JDRF through his older sister's foundation, One Sister's Love, and they participate annually in the JDRF Walk as "Cody's Courage." Cody plays soccer, lacrosse, and football, and enjoys dressing up as different Star Wars characters. One day, he wants to own a landscaping business like his dad. As a delegate, Cody wants to raise awareness about diabetes. "If we talk about it, then people can learn and donate money," he says.
