Age: 14
Age at T1D diagnosis: 11

One of Carlos’ greatest tools for living with T1D is gratitude. “For me, every breath, every smile, every time I hold open a door, every time I sprint, every hurdle—those times are just as important to me as every carb I consume and every unit of insulin I receive.” As a four-time National Junior Olympian in track and field and an accomplished public speaker, Carlos also knows a thing or two about endurance. He is also very dedicated to raising awareness about T1D in his community, giving speeches about T1D, and assisting in fundraising efforts for T1D organizations.

Currently an honor-roll student who loves bike riding, swimming, and playing the piano, Carlos looks forward to becoming a pediatric endocrinologist, so that he can someday treat kids living with T1D.
