When Camila has free time, you can usually find her in the kitchen cooking different recipes from around the world, or riding horses and spending time on the farm. When she gets older, she sees herself becoming a writer to inspire people living with health conditions and other challenges to never be afraid to “embrace their special sparkle.”

Camila will be quick to let you know that the thing that she’s most proud of is her bravery when it comes to managing life with T1D. Camila is a proud JDRF Youth Advocacy Leader and Youth Ambassador and says, “I’m not ashamed of having T1D, and will always speak up and advocate for a future where type one becomes type none.” Camila and her family left their home in Puerto Rico after the 2017 Hurricane Maria made it difficult to access the supplies she needed to manage T1D. Camila’s father also lives with T1D, and Camila looks forward to coming to D.C. to advocate for people with T1D living in Puerto Rico to have better access to the supplies they need.
