Age: 12
Age at T1D diagnosis: 6

Bethany is passionate about theater, music, and—of course—T1D research. “We need to have scientists and doctors researching type 1 diabetes, looking for new ways to treat it and looking for a cure. They have discovered so many things already—pumps and different types of insulin. We can’t stop now!”

In addition to T1D, Bethany has PKU—phenylketonuria, a condition that inhibits her body’s ability to digest certain kinds of protein. She contributes to the cause by promoting awareness, participating in fundraisers, and speaking with 300 medical students each year about her experience. A singer and musician, Bethany plays the flute and performs in the drama club and choir. When she grows up, she wants to become a pediatric endocrinologist.
