Age: 7
Age at T1D diagnosis: 3

Diagnosed with T1D weeks after her third birthday, Avery can’t remember life without T1D. But the disease hasn’t stopped this ambitious grade-schooler from working toward some very big dreams. She plans to become not only a teacher and a doctor, helping children living with T1D, but also a pop star. And she’s made great progress so far. In addition to dancing, gymnastics, and other sports, Avery loves making videos about living with her disease.

Her greatest role so far is as a budding activist. As an ambassador for diabetes awareness, she has been featured in local media and in a profile on Representative Jean Schmidt’s website. As a delegate, Avery’s goals are simple: to convince Congress to fund T1D research, and to show others living with T1D that they too are capable of dreaming big.
