Age: 11
Age at T1D diagnosis: 3

Austin is determined to find a cure for T1D and hopes a career in medicine or electrical engineering will one day help him achieve this goal. As a member of Destination Imagination, a global math and engineering competition, Austin is full of ideas: “What if you could sync your pump or artificial pancreas to your iPhone? I’d like to see if we could do that one day. I want to make a difference so that kids like me will have a cure or an artificial pancreas.”

For the past seven years, Austin has participated in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes, and his team, “Team Austin Powers,” has raised more than $50,000! He also acts as a youth ambassador for JDRF by mentoring newly diagnosed kids and even speaking in public about his experience with the disease.
