Since her diagnosis at age six, Ashley has proven that she can maintain an energetic life with type 1 diabetes. She has won first place at three dance competitions, starred in a play, and loves photography. She is also a Youth Ambassador with JDRF. Ashley was interviewed on a local television news program and on the radio about diabetes and JDRF. Her picture also appeared on a billboard about diabetes. Ashley would like Congress to keep in mind that funding for research would not only help Americans with diabetes, but also the millions of people with type 1 diabetes worldwide. "As a delegate, I hope to inspire and touch people with my story and life with diabetes," Ashley says. "Also, I want to become tangible evidence of what the 'faces'; of diabetes are."
