Age: 12
Age at T1D diagnosis: 10

As a football player and advocate for T1D, depression, and bullying awareness, Angel is tackling big challenges. “Being a delegate is important to me because it is proof to all other kids like me that having type 1 diabetes doesn’t make you different; it means you have a voice to make a difference.”

As the first student with T1D to participate in extracurricular activities at school, Angel paves the way for others. He and his mom helped start a support group for kids ages 8 to 13 who also have the disease. In addition to football, Angel enjoys tae kwon do, reading poetry, drawing, and listening to music. His ultimate goal? To spread awareness about T1D and the other causes close to his heart. When he grows up, he’d like to become a professional football player or a psychologist.
