Age at Diagnosis: 9

Amanda has received straight A’s her entire school career, which would be an impressive accomplishment all on its own, but Amanda’s dedication and work ethic extend far beyond the classroom. Amanda is passionate about volunteering, whether it’s at a JDRF One Walk or through her school’s annual Youth Day of Giving Back.

Spreading awareness about T1D and using her voice to advocate for the T1D community is also something Amanda has become a pro at. She even worked with her principal and others in her school district to ensure that carbohydrate counts for school lunches were available to students and parents. When she gets older, Amanda would like to be a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. “I know firsthand how hard life with T1D can be, and would love the opportunity to help others work through those struggles.”
