Inspired by his own endocrinologist, Justin hopes to pursue a medical degree and help others with diabetes. He already takes action at school, educating staff and students, rallying participation in JDRF fundraisers, and helping younger children who have been diagnosed. "Diabetes also has positive sides, like bringing people together and uniting them to help others," says Justin, diagnosed at age 11. Those "positive sides" are what he hopes to be a part of as a delegate. "While making the general public realize the scariness of the disease, I also want to demonstrate that an individual with diabetes can accomplish anything he or she sets out to achieve!" he says. Justin is a member of many school clubs, including the Scholastic Bowl, and was recently awarded his school's Spotlight Award for good citizenship and leadership. Justin also enjoys participating in his church's youth group and helping out on his family's farm.
