Type 1 diabetes came out of nowhere for Caroline. She had no symptoms and no family history of the disease prior to entering diabetic ketoacidosis. “People think I can control it with lifestyle or eating choices and confuse type 1 diabetes with type 2.” Today, Caroline focuses on raising awareness about what T1D really is.
Caroline participated in an internship with Personal Health Recording for Quality of Life, participated in a Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet clinical trial, and helped organize a JDRF celebrity hockey match. She hopes to become a medical research scientist. It is “my hope that by the time I am in college or graduate school, a cure will have already been found, and I can aspire to find a cure for another disease.”
