Age: 4
Age at T1D diagnosis: 11 months

Jack was diagnosed with T1D at just 11 months, after his history of weight loss, ear infections, and difficulty sleeping led his family to bring him to the hospital. There, Jack entered a coma, remaining in it for days until awakening—with a smile—on his mom’s 30th birthday. “I will never receive a better gift in my life,” she says.

Today, Jack endures 10 daily finger sticks and wears an insulin pump. While he has difficulty understanding when his blood sugar is low, Jack is able to tell others that he has T1D, and has begun helping to manage his disease. He and his family participate in JDRF Walks, work with their local JDRF chapter, and share their story with local businesses to help raise funds and spread T1D awareness.
